Canoe 2 Star Training (School)

This progressive course will really develop your group's canoe skills, concentrating on turning them into efficient paddlers, with a deep understanding of the skills and concepts that matter - but don't worry, there's still some time for fun and games to practice those new skills too!

By the end of the course, the participants should all have really improved their existing canoe skills, and will have had a chance to learn and practice all the canoe parts of the 2* sylabus. They'll know how to look after themselves on the water, and how to rescue each other too.

Canoe and kayak 2 star training courses are separate, so if you are interested in improving skills in only one of them you can stick to that, but if you would like your students to go forward to BC 2 star assessment then they will need the appropriate skills in both craft.

For younger children we can adapt this course to use the paddle power discover sylabus rather than two star, to give attainable targets and achievement throughout the course.

When can you book?

We are open year round for bookings, although most of our activities take place between March and October. School groups do come to us throughout the year during term time though.

During the main season (Easter to October) we are open 7 days a week, and when daylight allows we take evening bookings (approx mid April to mid September).

The course normally lasts for 7.5 hours in total, split into either 3 x 2.5 hours, or 5 x 1.5 hour sessions. We are happy to be flexible though, and can extend the course to fit in with term dates if required, just get in touch for a quote.

Recommended minimum age: approx 8 for Paddle Power Discover, approx 13 for two star

Maximum number: 16

A minimum fee applies equivalent to 8 people.

Staff or leaders are welcome to participate, but it is not essential as all sessions are run by our experienced team of coaches. We allow 1 leader to participate for free per 8 students, subject to availability of boats. Special needs groups may require staff participation on the water, or a greater ratio of our staff - please discuss at time of booking if relevant.

Canoe courses take place at Leam Boat Centre

Initially, phone or e-mail to arrange your date and time and check availability. We can make a provisional booking and reserve your slot in the diary.

To confirm your booking, we require a deposit of approximately 50% of the expected total (if the start date is more than 2 weeks ahead) or full payment if within 2 weeks of the start.

Final confirmation of numbers and full payment is required at least a week in advance of the session. This allows us to make sure we have the correct number of staff in place for your session.

We can accept payment either by cash, card, online or bank transfer. For schools/colleges an official purchase order is also acceptable to confirm your booking.

Please note we are unable to accept individual payments from course participants on our discounted youth group/school prices.

Upon confirmation of your booking, we will e-mail the group leader some information for participants about what to wear and bring, and a consent form. It is the responsibility of the group leader to disseminate this information as needed, and to bring completed consent forms for each participant to the first session.
